The Junk You Should Know Show Ep. 59: Medicinal Mushrooms and Chronic Disease

MEDICINAL MUSHROOMS AND THEIR ROLE IN CHRONIC DISEASE

Sachin Patel joins Dr. Heather Denniston on the 59th episode of the Junk You Should Know to discuss medicinal mushrooms and their role in chronic diseases. If you’ve been following the show for a while, you know Dr. Denniston is a true believer of natural alternatives for treatment and remedies where possible.

Medicinal Mushrooms

Sachin Patel, the founder of The Living Proof Institute, has become passionate about the benefits of medicinal mushrooms in his practice after seeing “profound results.”

The majority of people are accustomed to the culinary aspects of mushrooms, but the medicinal application can be incredible as well!

Types of Medicinal Mushrooms (12:04)

  • Reishi: Longevity
  • Turkey Tail: Balancing immune system
  • Chaga: Immune system
  • Lion’s Mane: Brain health
  • Cordyceps: Increasing stamina

Forms and Sourcing of Medicinal Mushrooms

  • Powder
  • Capsule

(14:34) The best sourced mushrooms are organically grown in a wild crafted state. They are raised in soil; in an environment similar to how you would’ve found them in the wild.

Anatomy of a Mushroom (16:25)

There are three main parts to a mushroom: the spore, mycelium, and fruiting body.

Consuming Medicinal Mushrooms (28:27)

Patel suggests starting with small doses to see how your body reacts. Always discuss dietary changes and natural remedies with your physician if you are currently being treated for other issues.

Effects of Medicinal Mushrooms (29:15)

According to Patel, mushrooms seem to provide the body a “software upgrade.” All the parts start communicating and operating cohesively. This, in turn, creates a pretty dramatic positive shift in a person’s health.

Are you prepared for a “mind blown” moment?

Make sure to stop and watch the 34:18 mark. Did you know how much we are connected to mushrooms? WOW!
