So last night I was sitting in ski clothes struggling valiantly with this week’s big Tuesday post. I am currently on vacation with my husband in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. I did not manage to pull off the fancy pro-blogger thing and pre-write my weekly posts having them ready to run in the background while I swooshed the slopes. (Lesson learned). So, now, under pressure to publish, I was feeling anxious. Anxiety to a writer is like a tight twist to the left on a faucet you want to flow. Not even a drip. I then progressed to resenting dumb probiotics and stupid fish oil, (this week’s subject.) These poor essential supplements (stay tuned for my post on this) did not deserve my wrath, so I stepped back and decided to shift priorities. I do not “bail” on anything without much consideration. Those who know me would say “doing what you say you are going to do” is one of my highest values and Tuesday never goes without some educational fodder from WELLFITandFED.
Well, today it does.
Instead, I am going to share a little of our vacation and then take off skiing. Because of his travel schedule, I get very little time with my husband. Today we are going to head up to Wolf Creek Ski Resort and ski our buts off and then head into town for a lamb burger at Riff Brewing Company. Who knows, we might go crazy and hit the Pagosa Hot Springs located right in the middle of town.
Brent and I have a friend who owns a beautiful home in Pagosa Springs and knowing we are skiers he insisted we come and use it for a week. One of Matt’s employees, Tobi, picked us up at the airport and hung out while we retrieved groceries from local health food grocery market. Tobi is a Pagosa local and owns a company called Renegade Jane’s. Her company provides everything from cleaning services to personal assisting. Like many folks who live in a small-town, she wears multiple hats and works several roles.
As we drive from the airport, she fills us in on all the types of people who live in Pagosa. I think most of them own chickens, would rebuild a barn for you and as a cumulative group could single-handedly take down REI stock holdings if they decided to go in a different wardrobe direction. She speaks very fondly of her Pagosa neighbours, and I am pretty sure she knows all 1600 residents by name.
Pagosa Springs is a tiny Colorado town outside Durango. It touts beautiful summers for fishing, biking and hiking and in the winter snowmobiling and all forms of skiing are widely available. The people of Pagosa are friendly and welcoming (in their REI gear). The ski ticket lady tells us to have a wonderful day each morning when we buy our tickets, and you can tell she means it. If you come up with every point you love about small towns, I think Pagosa might embody all of them. And if you are into Aliens and UFO sightings, apparently there is a fair bit of “alien activity” outside Pagosa. So there’s that.
Wolf Creek Ski Resort is a local’s mountain with intermediate to more difficult skiing. There are lots of chutes, cliffs, and back-country opportunities for those thrill seekers. They have even built a scaffolding for those skiers that like to hike up and off the beaten path. There is plenty of tree skiing as well as a beautiful variety of wide groomed “screamers”, as I like to call them. (My dad used to “scream” at me for going down them too fast!!) The best part, I don’t think we stood in one line-up over the three days we have skied so far!
So “Skiers breakfast” is calling. I am going to head downstairs, fill-up, so we can hit it hard. “Probiotics” and “fish-oil” can wait. Some priorities are meant to be shifted.

Too delicious!
This week what do you need to shift? Is there something that you need to do that is more important in the big scheme of things? Take a look at your schedule this week and measure if where you have placed your priorities is the best use of your time.
If you liked this post, you would do ski flips over these.

I’ve never heard of Pagosa Springs, but it looks beautiful! What a great way to spend the day. 🙂
Thank you, Brianne. Totally wonderful here!
Shifting priorities and writing from your heart has produced an excellent lesson for us all. Stop and enjoy life
Thank you my darling. It was hard to do but what a relief!
I recommend the hot springs. They are unlike anything. We live in Colorado and are hoping to hit some of the hidden ones this spring.
Thanks! I think we are going to go tomorrow!
