The Junk You Should Know Show Ep. 33: Suspension Training

The Junk You Should Know Show Ep. 33 - Suspension Training

Special guest, TRX fitness expert Miguel Vargus stopped by on 8/17 episode of The Junk You Should Know Show. His journey from model to TRX Training and Development Manager (Education and Content Team) and Senior Course Instructor started almost 9 years ago and he’s still so passionate about TRX today. In this episode, Dr. Heather Denniston focuses on the value of suspension training, more importantly, the TRX System

What’s interesting is the TRX Suspension Training was created out of necessity. The founder and creator, Navy SEAL Squadron Commander Randy Hetrick, had to use his ingenuity to rig a training system to stay “mission-ready” and work his pulling muscles. With only a jiu-jitsu belt and some gear he had while deployed, the TRX System was born.

QUICK NOTE ABOUT THIS EPISODE: You may come down with the case of “cuteness overload.” You’ll have to see for yourself.

SUSPENSION TRAINING WITH TRX FITNESS EXPERT MIGUEL VARGUS

At the 7:20 mark, Dr. Denniston admits that she’s tried a number of suspension training products. However, she remains a strong advocate for not only the TRX products but also the supportive education behind it.

When it comes to functional training, you know that Dr. Denniston is adamant about training for “life and longevity.” At its core, the TRX System helps you do exactly that.

Functional Training & TRX Suspension Training (8:48)

Vargus says it best when explaining the foundation of their system, “we’re training your movement patterns for success.” The end game is to be able to “move often, move well, move injury-free.”

Functional training with the system starts with these seven steps:

  1. Plank
  2. Pull
  3. Push
  4. Rotate
  5. Hinge
  6. Squat
  7. Lunge

Should You Be Doing Suspension Training? (10:45)

If you can have fun while training your body to move better, why not? There a number of ways to adapt your exercises based on your ability and body weight.

You can start with basic lower back or chest stretching just to get familiarized with the tool. As you start to expand your TRX Suspension Training routine, you’ll find specific exercises that will help you in different situations.

The flexibility of use makes this system ideal for all ages and skill ranges.
