One of the most innovative exercise tools the fitness industry has seen in the last thirty years is Randy Hetrik’s TRX. His motto is “train movements, not muscles” His philosophy encompasses training functionally and for fitness not just form. With his method of functional training comes a leaner, more toned body than you could have hoped for.
Exercise to me is basically an alternative to anxiety meds. Being able to exercise anywhere is essential to me. When my sister gave me a TRX for a birthday five years ago I took it to the gym, hooked it to the universal bar and flipped through the small exercise book that came with it. In no time I realized that this navy seal was on to something. Randy noodled the TRX concept because he realized his navy-seal-brethren had limited opportunity to stay fit out in the field. He created the TRX so that it could strap to the top of a jeep (or to anything secure) and hand out an ass-kicking in no uncertain terms. I was sold.
This is a picture of my TRX visiting Wisconsin. We, my TRX and me, were in the middle of a forest, a half-mile from the house of my in-laws. Picture, light snow, the best workout music you could imagine, and a 45 minute TRX/ skip-rope circuit that had me begging for oxygen on the ground at completion. I have used the TRX in my hotel room (comes with a cool door hanger), off play structures and taken it to the gym. This is one of the best, well-priced, mobile pieces of exercise equipment ever. And don’t be fooled, I had my 79 year old mother doing a TRX workout strapped to monkey bars last summer!
Post ass- kicking…
