I am a smoothie maker. It is an art form, and I am not shy about it. I am the master. My smoothies are a packed glass of alkalizing, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant green goodness! I am not sure there is a better way for your insides to start their day. The video below is a demonstration of the magic that occurs most mornings in my kitchen. This particular morning, the one in the video, occurred after my good friend, Katherine’s 40th birthday BBQ bash. After the bash, we needed those antioxidants and alkalizing properties even more! Cheers, and enjoy.
ANTIINFLAMMATORY GREEN SMOOTHIE
- 1 cup spinach
- 1 cup kale
- Celery (two pieces)
- Ginger (2-3 small pieces)
- Avocado (¼ – ½ cups)
- Chia Seeds (presoaked) 1 tbsp.
- Fish Oil I tbsp.
- Glutamine 1-2 scoops
- NanoGreens 1 scoop
- Pumpkin Seed Protein Powder 1-2 scoops
- Wheat Grass ½ tsp.
- Lemon Juice – 2 tbsp.
- Fresh or Frozen Berries or ¾ cup of Mangoes
- Two shot glasses of juice (i.e. organic Pineapple or Mango)
- Ice cubes if using fresh fruit (The smoothie is much better cold!)
- Water to ensure the consistency you want
After we shot the video, some great questions came up.
Question:“How much does this freaking thing cost?”
Answer: The total is $4.89 when I break down the cost of all ingredients.
Question:“How can I make this smoothie quickly so I can still get kids out the door in time for school?”
Answer: I pre-prep the chia seeds, ginger, kale and celery for a whole week. I normally do the pre-prepping on Sundays. Then you can also proportion the powders and place them into small baggies in the refrigerator. Even without these additional steps, the smoothie normally takes me about three minutes from start to finish.
Question:“You keep saying anti-inflammatory, I don’t have joint or muscle pain or “inflammation”, why would I need a smoothie with these properties?”
Answer: Okay, this is a whole blog post in itself, but here it is briefly. Due to the amount of acid found in the American diet, and our exposure to environmental toxins, our PH levels are not optimal. These high acidity levels put us into a hyper-inflammatory state. Even if you do not have sore muscles and joints, there is a pretty good likelihood your digestive tract is more inflamed than it should be. The inflammation affects your probiotic balance and the absorbability of your gut lining. Not good. All of us can benefit from incorporating anti-inflammatory foods into our diet to combat hyper-inflammation.
I will be writing a lot more on smoothie-making! Smoothies are the fastest, best way to get a boat-load of nutrients into your body. All the nutrients are easily absorbed because they are already partially broken down due to the blending process. Stay tuned!
Enjoy!!
Share below anything special you add into your morning smoothie!

Just made this – it is pretty delicious!! Thanks for sharing! (btw, the link to the smoothie girl site is broken)
Thank you Amanda! Will fix the link!
Green smoothies have been a staple in my diet for years and I can attest to their healing qualities. Probably the only kitchen appliance that gets more use than my Vitamix is my coffee pot. I’d suggest checking out Boku Super Food (http://bokulovelife.com/product/super-food/) to use in place of Nanogreens which seems to have a lot of fillers.
So you also like a protein powder that is the collagen peptiedes…. can you use this type of protein in it instead of the pumpkin seed one? Can guys use the peptieds too? My son made a smoothie with 4 scoops of the peptieds….is that bad?
Can you give us more smoothie recipes for morn snacks etc..?
Thanks
That’s right colleen. I found the VITAL PROTEINS COLLAGEN PEPTIDES after I wrote this post. Both protein powders are excellent. I like the peptides because they are collagen and we need that so badly. No problem for your son. Men need collagen too. Think joint and cartilage health. SO good for all of our tissues subject to aging. Here is the link for the Peptides if anyone else out there would like to try them.https://www.wellfitandfed.com/product/vital-proteins-collagen-peptides/
I LOVE the peptics!!!!! They have no flavor and feel so clean. Thank you for introducing them to me. Love all your blogs and advice!
I need to start making more smoothies. We juice every so often but not enough. So many benefits from making smoothies too. Thanks for the reminder!
They are like a little vitamin shop in a blender!
This is great! Thanks for posting this. I have been needed to try some different recipes. And, I feel like this time of year I want more anti-inflammatory food items. Definitely pinning for later.
Thanks, Deborah. You can add and take away ingredients as you need them too!
WOW! This is a killer smoothie!!!!
I normally do 2 cups spinach, 3/4 cup greek yogurt, 1/4 avacado, handful grapes, fresh lime, 1 pear and some chia seeds… but this one looks AWESOME.
I like to pre chop then freeze most of my smoothie goodies so that it’s nice and cold in the morning and only takes a minute 🙂

DO you freeze the spinach?
I have heard there are alot of benefits to green smoothies.
Tons, Sophia! So much goodness in a cup!
So delicious and healthy! I agree that even if we don’t have obvious inflammation problems, this smoothie will benefit anyone. So many foods in our American diet wreak havoc on our systems!
SO true, Brittany! Most people don’t realize they are walking around as an inflammatory mess!
Dont green smooties create kidney stones ??
I am curious where you heard that information, Mary. To my knowledge, there is no such evidence.
I use Vital Proteins collagen peptides! I came across them at a blogger convention last July and I add them to all of my smoothies.
TO Die For!!!! In love them!
