Does Your Salad Dressing Need Some VA VA Voom? “Zesty Orange Spice” is The Solution!

I come from a long line of women, who know how to make homemade salad dressings. I don’t mean that these recipes have been passed from mother-to-daughter; rather, I mean these women came into this world with an inherent knowledge of how to make a tasty homemade concoction out of lettuce and vegetables. My mother and both of my sisters can throw salad dressings together with whatever accoutrements happen to be in the kitchen at the moment. I, although not as gifted, also have that gene. In fact, I developed several “standby” recipes for salad dressings over the years, but “Orange Spice” is a new creation.

One night I was inspired to use butter lettuce as a base for a salad.  I added chopped hazelnuts and macadamia nuts, sliced avocado, green onions, and mandarin orange slices. I knew the dressing had to “kick” a little because of the milder flavors of the salad ingredients. So, “Orange Spice” evolved. My husband claims it is his new favorite salad dressing, but truthfully he loves anything with a little fire!

You can certainly adjust the spiciness of the salad dressing by reducing or increasing the cayenne pepper. Best of all – this dressing is WHOLE 30, paleo, gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan!

ORANGE SPICE  SALAD DRESSING

1/3-cup olive oil

1/4-cup white wine vinegar

1/2-cup fresh squeezed orange juice

1 tsp fresh crushed ginger

1 clove garlic

¼ tsp Himalayan sea salt

5 dashes cayenne pepper

¼ tsp honey

To enjoy it with the salad I made add the following ingredients:

 3-4  cups butter lettuce

¼ cup chopped macadamia and hazelnuts (combine them in whatever ratio you enjoy)

3 tbsp. chopped green onion

½ avocado chopped

½ cup mandarin orange slices

I hope you enjoy! Please share any adjustments that you made that enhanced the flavor

  1. I am always looking for new recipes. I get bored with my salads sometimes and the dressing can make all the difference. I’ll have to give this one a try. I love citrus flavor! Thanks for sharing.
