The Junk You Should Know Show Ep. 34: “Better Your Food Bowls”

Better Your Food Bowls with Michelle Federer

Wow, what a treat! The Junk You Should Know Show Ep. 34 featured a celebrity guest, actress Michelle Federer. Make sure you watch both parts of the episode, part 1 and part 2 so you get all the quick and easy recipes Michelle shared to “better your food bowls.”

Flavor combinations captured Michelle as she escaped into food shows. As Julia Robert’s understudy in a Broadway play, Michelle found herself using her “off-time” taking a class at the Institute for Integrated Nutrition, where she fell further in love with cooking.

At the 5:36 mark of the show (part 1), Michelle makes a great point about why we eat what we eat. Our childhood menu plays a large part in our current meal plans. Family budgets, regionality, and culture are important factors that determine those menus. As adults, some of our favorite childhood meals become “comfort food.”

Tips from the Show

Don’t overcomplicate the cooking process. Grains come out perfect by simply following the directions on the packaging.

Try new flavor combinations with “food bowl” style meals. You can create a full meal in just one bowl that is not only delicious but full of nutrition.

  • Grains
  • Beans
  • Variety of vegetables
  • Meat or other protein
  • Dressing or sauce

Bowl Idea:

  • Quinoa
  • Azuki Beas
  • Roasted Cauliflower
  • Bok-choy
  • Miso Dressing Recipe (4:20, part 2)

Start with a dressing base of 3 parts oil and 1 part acid like vinegar or lemon. Expand from there using herbs and spices.
