Antioxidant Chocolate Bites – Dessert that makes your skin glow

Antioxident Chocolate Bites – Dessert that makes your skin glow - WELLFITandFED

I have always been more of a gummy worm, licorice kind of gal but somewhere around 38, my hormones turned into chocolate demanding little beasts. When I gave up sugar (that is an ongoing battle) I wanted to find a recipe that satisfied the chocolate hankering without sacrificing taste. A friend (thanks, Joy!) provided me with the basic recipe for a chocolate bark of sorts. Through trial and error, I took it up a notch to create a health-benefit-loaded, sugar-free, chocolate fix that will not disappoint.

ANTIOXIDANT CHOCOLATE BITES – DESSERT THAT MAKES YOUR SKIN GLOW!

Healthy chocolate treats? C’monnnnn.

Not kidding, chocolate lovers. The benefits of the ingredients of this recipe are over-the-top fantastic. If you don’t want to read through each of them just know the combination is an antioxidant-loaded, minerally-rich, high fiber, anti-cancer, skin glowing cocktail of goodness.

Here are the bennies.

  • Cocoa Powder: Unsweetened cocoa powder is rich in minerals and has excellent anti-inflammatory properties. Cocoa increases heart health because of its positive effects on blood flow.
  • Goji Berries: This low glycemic fruit is a good source of protein and fiber. It is highly anti-inflammatory, increases energy and aids in healthy digestion.
  • Macadamia Nuts: These are the good guys. Good fats, good source of minerals and lots of good B vitamins. Macadamia nuts are super heart-healthy and rich in anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Maple Syrup: High in calcium and magnesium and potassium. Maple syrup is also rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. It is excellent for digestion and skin health!
  • Coconut: High in fiber and possessing a low glycemic index coconut can have a direct influence on weight management. It is highly antibacterial and anti-viral and has an excellent effect on the immune system.

Sugar has always been my nemesis. Giving it up has been an ongoing battle. It is tough to go “cold turkey” with a habit we are trying to change. Replacing the vice, as opposed to eliminating it, can prove to have better long-term success rates – Chewing a toothpick, instead of smoking, or soda water in replacement of Diet Cokes. What vice do you have that needs to go? What healthy option can you use as a replacement so you experience better success?
